1. Vitamin C & E Serums

 

Vitamin C and E are powerful antioxidants that protect your skin from free radical damage, which is one of the main causes of aging. They also brighten your complexion, fade dark spots, and boost collagen production, which makes your skin firmer and smoother. I recommend using a vitamin C serum in the morning, after cleansing and before moisturizing, to give your skin a radiant glow. My favorite one is Skinceuticals Vitamin C Serum, which has a high concentration of pure vitamin C and a patented formula that delivers it deep into the skin.

 

At night, I switch to a vitamin E serum, which helps repair and nourish the skin while you sleep. Vitamin E also works well with other ingredients, such as retinoids or probiotics, to enhance their benefits. My go-to vitamin E serum is Probulin Probiotic Extract Serum, which contains probiotic extract that balances the skin microbiome and strengthens the skin barrier.

 

 

2. Retinoids

 

Retinoids are the number 1 dermatologist-recommended anti-aging ingredient, and for good reason. They are derived from vitamin A and have the ability to speed up cell turnover, unclog pores, reduce wrinkles, smooth texture, and even out skin tone. They are also effective for treating acne, scars, and hyperpigmentation. However, retinoids can be irritating for some people, especially at first, so it’s important to start slowly and use them only at night.

 

The most potent form of retinoid is tretinoin, which is available by prescription only. I use tretinoin cream every other night, after applying my vitamin E serum. It’s amazing how much difference it makes in my skin appearance and texture. If you can’t get a prescription for tretinoin, you can try over-the-counter retinol products, which are less potent but still effective. Just make sure to use a gentle cleanser and a moisturizer with SPF in the morning to avoid dryness and sun sensitivity.

 

 

3. Probiotic Serum

 

Probiotics are not only good for your gut health, but also for your skin health. They are beneficial bacteria that live on your skin and help maintain its balance and immunity. They also produce natural substances that hydrate, soothe, and protect your skin from inflammation and infection. When your skin microbiome is disrupted by factors such as stress, pollution, or harsh products, it can lead to problems such as acne, eczema, rosacea, or premature aging.

 

That’s why I use a probiotic serum every day, both in the morning and at night. It helps restore and maintain the optimal pH level of my skin and keeps it calm and clear. My favorite probiotic serum is BioGaia Probiotic Cream, which contains Lactobacillus reuteri – a strain of probiotic that has been clinically proven to improve skin hydration, elasticity, and smoothness.

 

 

4. Micellar Water or Cleansing Oils

 

Cleansing is the first and most important step of any skin care routine. It removes dirt, oil, makeup, and impurities from your skin and prepares it for the next steps. However, not all cleansers are created equal. Some can be too harsh or stripping for your skin type or condition, leaving it dry or irritated.

 

That’s why I prefer to use micellar water or cleansing oils instead of traditional foaming cleansers. Micellar water is a gentle solution that contains tiny micelles – molecules that attract dirt and oil like magnets – that cleanse your skin without rinsing or rubbing. Cleansing oils are oils that dissolve makeup and impurities without disrupting the natural oils of your skin. Both options are suitable for all skin types and leave your skin soft and hydrated.

 

I use micellar water in the morning to refresh my skin and remove any residue from the night. I love Cerave Hydrating Micellar Water, which also contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid to moisturize and plump my skin. At night, I use a cleansing oil to melt away my makeup and sunscreen. My favorite one is Burt’s Bees Nourishing Cleansing Oil, which has coconut and argan oils that nourish and smooth my skin.

 

 

5. Bakuchiol

 

Bakuchiol is a natural alternative to retinol that has been gaining popularity in the skin care world. It is derived from the seeds of the babchi plant and has similar benefits to retinol, such as stimulating collagen, reducing wrinkles, and improving skin tone and texture. However, unlike retinol, bakuchiol is gentle and non-irritating, making it ideal for sensitive or reactive skin.

 

I use bakuchiol on the nights that I don’t use tretinoin, as a way to boost my anti-aging results without overloading my skin. I apply it after my probiotic serum and before my moisturizer.
