Aromatherapy uses essential oils to improve psychological and physical well-being. Essential oils are concentrated oils made from flowers, petals, roots, seeds, fruit, barks of plants. Research show that aromatherapy can offer positive benefits in common problems like anxiety, stress, poor sleep and more.

Essential oils are very concentrated extracts from plants, used for thousands of years in alternative medicine, cosmetic and perfumery fields because of the curative potential for the body, mind and spirit. They modulate mental functions and act as mood enhancers. Scents work through the nervous system, having impact on our health, mood and general well-being. And let’s face it, we love fragrances and that’s the reason we buy perfumes! In fact, most perfumes are a unique blend of essential oils and other ingredients.

  1. Inhalation – steam inhalation or diffusion. When inhaled, the oils are absorbed via the lungs and circulated through the body, making use of their therapeutic benefits. They also work by sending messages to parts of the brain that coordinates mood and emotion, helping with relaxation.

When it comes to personal care and beauty, there are endless possibilities to enjoy the smell and properties of an essential oil. The easiest way is to add them to vegetable oils, creams, or bath gels. Since essential oils are very concentrated, only a few drops should be diluted in a carrier oil. Essential oils should never be applied directly to skin!
