Filling the Gaps: Restoring and Soothing Cracked Skin

How to treat cracked skin

Eczema and psoriasis can cause painful skin cracks or fissures, hindering even simple movements. These cracks, which can occur on hands, feet, mouth, lips, and cheeks, are particularly common between toes and on heels.

Untreated fissures can lead to infection. Women wearing open-backed shoes are often more susceptible.

Treatment for the cracked skin:

Soak yourself: The best treatment for dry skin is to have a good bath every night before going to sleep. By enabling water absorption, similar to how a sponge works, skin cells are hydrated. A 20-minute warm water soak, followed by patting the area dry, is recommended. Epsom salts and essential oils provide additional soothing properties.

Apply a moisturizer: It’s no secret cracked skin is dry, so the best way to combat it is by keeping it hydrated.

Stick the cracks: You can either get a pedicure professionally done, or have an at-home spa night! This technique exfoliates dead skin cells from your feet. Likewise, facial exfoliation followed by hydration promotes skin renewal by removing old cells and moisturizing new ones.

Avoid tartar toothpaste: If you experience cracked lips, consider minimizing tartar control toothpaste usage. The ingredients in these toothpastes can irritate sensitive tissues, resulting in cracked skin and an itchy rash around the mouth area.

Following some of the above mentioned steps can help you in preventing/curing cracked skin.
