Mental Health Awareness Week – Mind Your Brain!

Mental Health Awareness Week

The Mental Health Awareness Week will take place from 10-16 May 2021.

Approximately one in four / five people will experience a mental health problem each year. Mental Health Awareness Week aims to reduce the stigma that can stop people from asking for help from qualified professionals.

During the Coronavirus pandemic, millions of people have experienced a mental health problem, or seen a loved one struggle. Anxiety, depression, eating disorders or the more general feeling of isolation have affected our day-to-day lives.

Reset and engage in self-care. Finding ways to relax are critical to mental health. Whether it’s a nap, reading, spending time outdoors or listening to music for relaxation, make sure you schedule me-time to prevent stress from building up. You don’t need to have a mental health condition to schedule regular time to relax, for your own health and well-being.

Sound therapies have long been popular as a way of relaxing and restoring one’s health. So if you want your mind and body to last, you’ve got to prioritize giving them a rest. Music is an easy way to take some of the pressure off of the daily routine. The way to a more productive, more inspired, more joyful life is getting enough sleep.

Develop daily mini-habits to look and feel at your best. Remember to schedule daily “me-time” for your health and emotional well-being. Here are a few examples of self-care activities that will reward even your most stressful days:

  • schedule self care weekends
  • spend more time outdoors and ideally include some form of physical activity
  • “waste” time creatively – do some DIY activities like cooking, home deco, listening to music or something you enjoy
  • de-clutter your environment
  • take time for digital detox (switch off your electronic devices and stay away from social media)
  • create a bedtime routine which relieves stress
  • get enough sleep – around 6-8 hours is the number of hours most individuals need every night

These are some quick tips on how to prevent stress from building up with daily mini-habits. For more information, check out this link.
