Did you know that certain essential oils can help improve your workout routine?
Essential oils can support the immune system, increase motivation, boost your energy levels and uplift your emotional well-being.
Here are the most common essential oils used by athletes:
Peppermint essential oil is very popular in the field of sport and is used to improve joints and muscle comfort.
Ginger essential oil is also a tonic and ideal for days when you’re feeling fatigued or have decreased motivation.
Lemon or other citrus essential oils (orange, bergamot, lime, grapefruit) – can help boost your mood, energy levels, find mental clarity, reduce stress and promote general well-being.
Lavender essential oil is good for sleep and relaxation, and can help calm your body and mind.
Eucalyptus essential oil – when applied topically, eucalyptus oil was found to warm muscles and soothe aching joints, or treat athletes’ foot.
Arnica oil helps to reduce inflammation, pain and swelling when applied topically. It can also relieve the symptoms associated with bruises, sprains, muscle aches and arthritis, improve circulation and speed up the healing process.
CBD oil has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and pain-relieving properties and promotes athletes recovery during regular training.
Essential oils can be helpful before, during and after the workout sessions:
Before your workout: boost your energy levels with peppermint essential oil. It was found to help increase motivation before a workout or competition. You can inhale essential oils directly from the bottle before hitting the gym, rub a few drops on your wrist, diffuse the essential oils in your car or wear aromatherapy jewelry.
During the workout: diffuse aromatherapy essential oils during your yoga or gym practice if you’re exercising at home.
After the workout: have a relaxing massage or bath with essential oils. Add 10-12 drops of eucalyptus essential oil to a carrier oil (such as fractioned coconut oil, olive or jojoba oil) and massage your tensioned muscles and joints.
